Hallberg is an excellent writer.  Interesting story, great character development.  HOWEVER, at 900 pages, we both felt he could have edited a bit more and not hurt the story nor the character development.  By the end, we both found ourselves kind of skimming rather than reading and truly enjoying the good writing.
